our mission

Carbon emissions are difficult for the average person to track, understand, and change. Parbon allows users to log and track their carbon usage from commutes, understand what their carbon footprint means relative to the world around them, and buy carbon offsets.

“Our culture doesn’t really acknowledge carbon usage.”

Mike, Associate at Private Equity Firm in Palo Alto

“If we are living in shared community, everyone should share resources and be aware of the costs.”

Peter, Analyst at Hedge Fund in Palo Alto

“Having metrics would make me more aware of my habits and their impact from an emission standpoint.”

James, Engineer at Apple

our design process

Needfinding

We conducted extensive interviews to understand how people think about their carbon usage in personal and professional settings.

Experience Prototype

For the issues that were found in our needfinding process, we designed and tested experience prototypes as solutions to some of these problems.

Concept Video

With identifying Parbon as our solution to giving users more control over their carbon usage, we produced a video to illustrate the concept and context of use of the product.

Lo-fi Prototype

With considering multiple realizations that could implement Parbon, we designed and tested a low-fidelity mobile phone app to gain more insight about the strengths and weaknesses of our solution.

Medium-fi Prototype

Using Figma, we designed an interactive, medium-fidelity prototype to gain a more realistic understanding of our solution as a mobile application.

Heuristic Evaluation

Using Jakob Nielsen’s list of heuristics for user interface design, our classmates performed a focused critique of our med-fi prototype, which we then incorporated into our final high-fidelity prototype.

Hi-Fi Prototype

Through considering feedback and recommendations from our heuristic evaluation, we refined our solution and built a high-fidelity prototype of Parbon.

Poster and Pitch Slides

We presented the final prototype of Parbon at the CS147 Project Fair on Friday, March 11, 2022 to our peers, faculty, and interested parties from the industry.
