The Spice team reflected on quarantine and learned that college students spent more time cooking at home than ever before. We interviewed a wide range of college students who generally do not cook frequently due to personal constraints.
To build upon our previous insights, we continued to interview users–intended users and extreme users. As we brainstormed, we conducted experience prototype tests to see how users would respond to the early stages of three potential solutions.
In order to bring our concept to life to our audience, we created a video to communicate the overarching purpose of Spice. We communicate our app’s intended purpose via visual abstractions instead of UI.
Narrowing down to two mobile interface designs, we defined three tasks that users would complete using our app. Using Figma to sketch storyboards for our best design, we tested it with three college students, with them providing feedback for improvement.
We generated our interactive prototype using Figma.
Users start by searching for a recipe to make based on what they already have in the fridge or step through a recipe. To make cooking a social experience, users could also share the recipe with a friend via chat or cook together via video call.
Classmates conducted a heuristic evaluation and compiled a list of violations. We utilized this crowdsourced feedback to improve our high-fidelity prototype.
