Tools For Tomorrow's Teams
Bob Johansen, Institute for the Future
Seminar on People, Computers, and Design
Stanford University January 29, 1992
Bob Johansen will present a few core ideas from the book he is just finishing for Harvard Business School Press called "Beyond Business Teams: An Exploration of Teamwork, Technology, & Tomorrow." He will begin with a brief overview of business environment forces that are making business teams (small, cross-organizational, time-focused, task-driven work groups) so popular for the 1990's. After introducing this context, a set of scenarios for future business teams making creative use of new electronic tools will be presented and discussed. These scenarios will be the basis for a discussion of issues in the design of computer/human interfaces for support of collaborative work.
Bob is Director of the New Technologies Program at Institute for the Future (IFTF) in Menlo Park. He is a social scientist by training, with a PhD from Northwestern University. For the last twenty years, he has focused on making sense out of emerging information technologies from a prospective user point of view. His current research is supported by large vendors and user organizations.
Titles and abstracts for all years are available by year and by speaker.
