In 10 weeks, we explored the problem domain of travel, ultimately striving to create spontaneous, genuine travel experiences. Thus, O was born as an event discovering and sharing app for anyone exploring a new place.
In order to find pain points and learn more about traveler needs, Team Trability interviewed and observed travelers at SFO International Airport. We spoke with users such as international travelers, a family, a flight attendant, and a gate attendant to gain a complete picture of how people from a variety of backgrounds approach travel.
After collecting information from travelers, we began creating and refining key insights from our data. After a whirlwind of brainstorming, we developed three experience prototypes to begin testing user responses to our solutions. One of these prototypes, termed EventPOP, would eventually evolve into our final product O.
After settling on an event sharing app geared toward adding spontaneity to travel, Trability filmed a concept video illustrating how users would benefit from our app. Our video showcases three tasks users can complete through O and challenged us to view our app from a user’s perspective.
Our video won an award for Best Production Value.
After incorporating feedback from our low-fidelity tests, we re-sketched our interface design and translated our paper sketches into a medium fidelity prototype. We built our pages using Sketch and connected them using Marvel.
Peers tested our medium-fidelity prototype and provided feedback based on Nielsen’s Heuristic Standards. This provided expert feedback we could incorporate into our final prototype.
With experience and feedback from our previous prototypes, we began creating a final retest of O.
Over the course of ten weeks, O evolved from a vague exploration of the traveling experience to a concrete solution. Our final prototype is a product of intensive user research, testing, and rapid iteration, and provides spontaneity in travel to create authentic, genuine experiences.
