Feedback from final CS247 session, 2009
Liked/learned
- being creative in teams
- learning from others in group
- starting early with the final team
- idea logs and sketching
- visual thinking
- good to see each others' work
- learning how to do observation
Wish
- more core interaction design
- exercises on specific interaction design aspects
- study examples
- look at different interaction styles
- analyze/modify pre-existing designs
- hardware demands hadn't led to so much focus on getting the physical technology running
- more emphasis on low-fi testing instead of just observing
- dedicated persistent space for projects
How to
- Make it more of a joint venture with the users (kids)
- Have them learn design processes
- Start with more realistic sense of existing needs
- work with teachers
- how to do this along with the physical device emphasis
- Give clear understanding of what to bring to class each time
- Get lectures to be more closely related to projects
- Have clearer sense of priorities without rigid grading
- See examples of where they are headed
- Show previous projects at beginning of course
- Clearer critiques on how well your current state matches expectations in different dimensions
- Provide more scaffolding for the idea log activities
- periodic check
- suggestion for the week of what to try doing
