4 Projects, 1 Idea Log, Zero Exams

fire

P1 (individual, 5%) : Observe and analyze human-machine interaction in a breakdown situation. Explore designs to avoid or mitigate this breakdown.
P2 (team, 10%): Building on the techniques from P1 and informed by a contextual inquiry, brainstorm designs for a community of users. Compare and refine these via storyboarding and bodystorming, and finally present one design to the class as a skit.
P3 (team, 25%): Design and build an interactive prototype. In addition to the tools introduced by P1 and P2, your team will investigate your user's mental models, leverage heuristic evaluations and iterate your prototype based on this feedback.
P4 (team, 35%): Further building upon your design from P3, integrate a physical computer interface and iterate based on feedback from testing with actual users. This is the capstone project for the course and you are encouraged to polish the final design and presentation for the class and outside guests.

Idea Log (individual, 20%): Idea logs are a sequential visual record of your personal design ideas -- both related to the course and otherwise. Entries can be as mundane or outrageous as your ideas. The intent is to leverage your design ideas via ongoing personal reflection.

Class participation makes up the remaining 5%.
