"Wizard of Oz" Techniques Used

1. Quiz Results

We used a bank of pictures for the quiz that is significantly smaller than what the final version will have. The experience reflects the final experience, but we don't actually do any back-end processing of preferences. Instead we give every user a defined set of tours, regardless of their interaction with the quiz.

2. Tour Routes

Even though we give the user three different tour options, all tours lead to the same route. We just label the tours different to give the illusion of having multiple tours. In the final product we will actually have curated multiple tours based on expert advice and user preferences.

3. GPS Tracking

To mimic GPS tracking within the Cantor Art Center, we animated a location tag and the Cantor floor plan to move simultaneously and give the impression of the map moving while the user is walking. Note, that the animation will run even if the user does not move - so it does not accurately represent the final experience. Another limitation of this technique is that the animation continues to run in the background even when the user moves to another screen. So, a user could click on an information point and when they return to the map, the locator may have moved onto a different point.
