1. Installation

1.1 Minimum System Requirements

These are the minimum requirements to install and use the
  Digital Pen(TM) Software:

For network based open services only:
  - Pentium(R) III - 500 MHz (700 MHz or higher recommended)
  - Windows(R) 2000 with SP4, or Windows(R) XP with SP2
  - 256 MB of RAM (512 MB recommended)
  - Free USB port
  - Screen resolution of 800x600 and 256 colors
  - Microsoft(R) .NET Framework 1.1(not provided in the
       installation package)
  - Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 or higher
(not provided in the installation package)
  - Approximately 300 MB of free disk space

Due to size limitations, Microsoft(R) .NET Framework 1.1 and its service
pack, as well as Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer 5.01
Service Pack 2 are not provided in the installation package.

1.1.1 Additional Required Software

The following software is required for systems to install and run the Digital
Pen(TM)Software. These software applications can be downloaded from
the Microsoft (R) Download website: http://microsoft.com/downloads/

  MICROSOFT(R).NET FRAMEWORK 1.1 & SERVICE PACK

The quickest way to access the .NET downloads is to enter
".net framework" as search criteria. The first 2 results
should be the .NET framework and its service pack.

We recommend that the .NET package you install be in the same
  language as your Operating System.

IMPORTANT NOTE : The Digital Pen(TM) Software does not support versions of
the .Net Framework later than 1.1 Service Pack 1.

1.1.2 Windows Operating Systems Support

We strongly recommend installing the latest operating
system updates and Service Packs prior to installing the
  Digital Pen(TM) Software.

1.2 Standard Installation

You must have administrative privileges to install
  The Digital Pen(TM) Software

To install the software, launch the "SETUP.EXE" file
located in the root folder of the installation package. If you
are upgrading to a newer version of the Digital Pen(TM) Software,
the previous download-related settings will not be kept.

  NOTE:
It is recommended that you connect the cradle (with the
Digital Pen(TM) docked) to the USB port only once the Digital Pen
  Software(TM) 3.2 installation is complete.

1.3 Command Line Installation

The Digital Pen(TM) Software 4.0 offers command line installation
options, including a silent install mode

  Example of Syntax: setup.exe
   [ /s ] [/r"<fullpath><resultFilename>"][/f"<fullpath><logFilename>"]
   [ /Lxxxx ] [ /v"[L_OPENSERV="{1|0}" ] [ L_EPLS="{1|0}" ]
   [ L_URL=\"<url>\" ] [L_LOCCOPY="{1|0}" ] [ INSTALLDIR=\"<fullpath>\"]

IMPORTANT: Usage of the silent installation mode is strictly
subject to the signature of a suitable license agreement with
  Logitech.

1.3.2 /r and /f parameter

The /r"<path>+<filename>" parameter creates a result file in the specified
path. It will only be created per default if the installation
  is launched in silent mode.

1.4 Installation on a Dual Boot System

If your system can dual-boot between Windows 2000 and XP and
you would like to use the Digital Pen(TM) Software on each
platform, you must perform an installation on each platform in a different
  directory.

1.5 Uninstallation

To uninstall the Digital Pen(TM) Software from your
system, click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon in the Windows
Control Panel, select "Digital Pen(TM) Software" and click the
"Remove" button. You will be given the option to remove your
  software.

2. Troubleshooting

2.1 The Digital Pen(TM) Is Not Detected or Does Not Function Properly

If your Digital Pen(TM) is not detected or does not
Function properly, please try the following steps to troubleshoot the
  issue:

  - Check that the pen battery status and memory LEDs are lit,
and that the pen turns off and then back on when the cap
     is put on and removed.

If this does not work, try resetting the pen by following
     these steps:
       1. Take off the pen cap.
       2. Press the reset button with a paper clip or pencil tip.
You will not lose any information in the pen.

If the pen still does not function properly after
performing a reset, you can perform a master reset
to restore the pen to its factory settings.

Use this procedure only as a last resort because all of the
information in the pen's memory will be lost.

To perform a master reset, do the following:
       1. Take off the pen cap.
       2. Press the pen tip on a surface while you press the
reset button with a paper clip or pencil tip.
       3. Keep the pen tip pressed down on the surface while you
remove the paper clip or pencil tip from the reset button.
Keep the tip pressed until the Battery and Memory Status
LEDs stop blinking red, and then lift the pen. The pen restarts
and vibrates to indicate that it can be used again.
       4. Insert the pen into the cradle. This allows the pen to
re-download the paper definition files it had before you
          reset the pen.

  - Check that the Digital Pen(TM)s driver is loaded by doing the
     following:

       1. Click the "Start" button (or press Ctrl-Esc) to bring
up the Start menu. Select "Settings", then "Control Panel".
       2. Double-click the "System" icon to open the System
           Properties.
       3. From the System Properties, select the "Hardware" tab,
and then click the "Device Manager" button.
       4. Under the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section,
there should be an icon for "Digital Pen(TM)". If
there is a yellow exclamation or red X mark on this entry,
highlight it and press the "Delete" key on the keyboard to
           remove it.
       5. After the entry has been removed, select "Scan for
Hardware Changes" from the "Action" menu.
       6. Look at the entries under the "Universal Serial Bus
controllers" section again and check the "Digital Pen(TM)"
entry. Verify that there is no yellow exclamation point or red X
           mark.

2.2 "Error 1001: An Exception Occurred While Uninstalling" or
"Setup encountered an error and cannot continue to install the
    software"

This error can happen when two users who have administrative
rights are logged on simultaneously. In order to continue
install/uninstallation, log one user off and then continue the
procedure from the other user. Please visit the Digital Pen(TM) website at
  http://logitechio.com if this issue persists.

2.3 Data Transmission is blocked with Password Protected pens on
some systems running Windows XP without SP1

When you download data from a password-protected pen on some
systems where Windows XP service pack 1 is not installed, the download may
be blocked, meaning the status of the items in the
transaction log will remain "Queued". In this case you should either
install Window XP service pack 1 or 2 or remove the password
protection from your pen. You can avoid this problem by
installing Window XP service pack 1 or 2 before installing and using your Digital
  Pen(TM).

2.4 On Some Systems with USB 2.0 Cards, the Pen Is Not Detected
    After Being Re-plugged

Due to a Windows limitation, on some systems with a USB 2.0
Card, a pen may not be detected after being unplugged and re-
plugged quickly during a download. If your pen is not detected, first
verify the connection between the pen and your PC. If the
pen and cradle are properly attached but the pen is still not
detected, open the Windows Device manager and check the Universal Serial
Bus Controllers entry to verify that the Digital Pen(TM) driver is present. If
the Digital Pen(TM) driver does not appear in the Device Manager, restart
the PC to allow the Digital Pen(TM) driver to load. Be sure to
save your work and close all running applications before system reboot.
You can avoid this problem by keeping the pen plugged into its
cradle until the data transmission finishes, i.e. when the light on the
 pen has stopped flashing.

2.5 Logitech.Runtime.Remoting.ChannelMaker Exception When the
Tray Icon Loads on the System

This is a confirmed .NET 1.1 bug. Microsoft has proposed a few
solutions on the web site, which can be found at
  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;817571

2.6 Browsing the URL Pages of Digital Pens(TM)

NOTE : this only applies to non-Bluetooth Digital Pens(TM).
URL pages returned by the Digital Pen(TM) only support
Internet Explorer. The software will automatically select
Internet Explorer as default browser. Internet Explorer is a prerequisite to
installing the Digital Pen(TM) Software, so it will always be available on
systems where the pen software is installed.

2.7 Determining Your Pen's Firmware Version

You can identify your pen's firmware version in the Digital Pen(TM)
  Settings panel.

2.8 Clearing a forgotten Password from the Pen

You can not perform any Pen-related operations on a password protected
pen until a valid password has been entered when prompted.
If a pens password has been forgotten, you can recover pen
functionality by performing a master reset (see section 2.1).
As a result of this operation, all data in the pen will be lost
and all settings will be reset to factory defaults.

2.9 The Digital Pen(TM) Software does not function well after a Hibernation or
     Standby

If the pen software does not function well after returning from
hibernation or standby during a pen data transfer, you will need to
restart your PC. You can avoid this problem by avoiding suspends
until the pen has finished all pending transactions.

2.10 The PC is unable to enter standby or hibernation during download.

Due to many problems related to a PC entering stanby or hibernation
while data is being downloaded, standby and hibernation modes are disabled
while a PC is downloading from a pen.
Normal suspend capacities resume once the download is complete.

2.11 Issues when uninstalling the Digital Pen(TM) Software 2.3 or
earlier while the Digital Pen(TM) Software 4.0 is still present

If you uninstall the Digital Pen(TM) Software 2.3 or earlier while
the Digital Pen(TM) Software 4.0 is still present on the system,
the Digital Pen(TM) Software 4.0 will not work properly anymore.
In order to use the Digital Pen(TM) Software 3.2 again, you have
to run the Digital Pen(TM) Software 4.0 install and choose the
"Repair" option at the installer prompt.

2.12 Compatibility with other digital writing applications

The Digital Pen(TM) Software 3.0 and above cannot be installed on a machine
where the Nokia Digital Pen(TM) software is installed. The Nokia
software must be uninstalled before the Digital Pen(TM) Software
can be installed and used. However, there is no need to uninstall the Nokia
software when installing a previous version of the Digital
  Pen(TM) Software (version 1 or 2).

2.13 PC-less scenario support

The Digital Pen(TM) Software supports "PC-less" scenarios, where the
Digital Pen(TM)'s LEDs can display the status of a download (In progress,
Failed, Succeeded, etc). This feature eliminates the need for a
monitor and can be useful if the PC or Digital Pen(TM) are far away from
the monitor, or when using USB over IP, etc.

With a default configuration, several dialogs may appear and prevent
a download from initiating or completing. To avoid this, 2 solutions
  are possible :

  1. For non-Bluetooth Digital Pens(TM) : In the Digital Pen(TM) Software's
Control Panel, set the value of the "Maximum number of URLs to
open automatically" to 999. This will prevent a case where more
URLs than this value are set to be opened and a warning dialog
will appear, thus blocking downloads from other pens

2.The following registry key can be created in HKEY_CURRENT USER to
prevent all blocking windows from being displayed :
  \Software\Logitech\Io2Software\CurrentVersion\Download\BlockingWindowsAllowed = "False"
To restore the original setting, the value can be changed to "True" or the
  key can be deleted.
