HCI Lunch Meetings
The schedule for the lunch meetings (including lunch assignments and topics) can now be found on the Stanford HCI Calendar page.
Wednesday Lunches
The HCI Group lunch meeting is held every Wednesday from 12:00 Noon - 1:15 PM in the iRoom (Gates B23). During these lunch meetings, the HCI research group members and/or outside guests lead discussions on topics of interest to the HCI community at Stanford. Wednesday lunch meetings are open to anyone who is interested in HCI at Stanford.
Friday Lunches
On Fridays during the academic year (Autumn, Winter and Spring quarters) from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM HCI graduate students have lunch with the speaker for CS547 - HCI Seminar on People, Computers and Design in Gates 392
Lunch Assignments
The task of ordering lunch is randomly distributed amongst the regular attendees (mostly graduate students) at the lunch meetings. On your assigned day, you are responsible for ordering lunch for the group, and making sure the room is cleaned up afterwards. Here are some guidelines to follow when ordering:
Spend less than $10 per person (including drinks, tax and tip). Staying below $10 per person also has the added benefit of usually being below the petty-cash limit; this will make it easier to get reimbursed.
For Wednesday lunches order for about 15 people, for Fridays for about 10 people.
It's usually safer to order group-style foods (e.g. Chineese, Indian, Pizza, Thai, etc.) rather than foods that require knowing exactly how many people will be present (such as sandwiches).
Be sure to order drinks/water.
Be sure to have some vegetarian options!
The driver/delivery person's tip should usually be between $10-$15.
Getting Reimbursed
You can either order on your own credit card and then get reimbursed or you may borrow the department credit card from Monica Niemec (Gates 368) to order the lunch. In either case, save your receipts and bring them to Monica (Gates 368) for reimbursement.
Schedule Conflicts
If you have a conflict or for some reason are unable/unwilling to order the lunch for your assigned date, it is your responsibility to trade with someone else on the list or make alternative arrangements. Once you have made arrangements, please email Ranjitha Kumar (ranju at stanford) so that she can update the schedule.
