Project Format

In this course, you will motivate (through fieldwork), prototype, and evaluate a novel user interface in a quarter-long research project. Projects will be in pairs (email cs376@cs if you'd like a larger group).

• If you do not have a group, email us project ideas ASAP, and we will post these ideas on the web. Email cs376@cs with your 150 word abstract for a project (or two)
• Before class on Tuesday, email cs376@cs with your top 3 choices
  • Self-pairing is fine, just email us
  • We will announce pairs at the end of class on Tuesday (10/4), or shortly after class (via email)
• Brief (1 page) project proposal due monday 10/10 at 9AM
  • Check out 2004's 376 offering for examples of ideas, proposals, and milestones... Here is a Milestone #1 Submission of a project by Taemie Kim and Manu Kumar that was accepted as a CHI 2005 Short. It can give you a sense of the scope of a project suitable for this quarter.

This proposal is not set in stone. It should briefly outline who your target users are, what the user interface needs to do (not what it looks like), and how you propose to evaluate it.
