Magic and Technology have gone hand in hand for centuries. Magicians have been doing tricks that become reality years later, and charlatans have been using advanced technology to create the illusion of magical powers forever. Beyond their historical back-and-forth, technology has much to learn from the world of magic. Recently magicians have been involved with serious breakthroughs in psychology, exploiting their robust knowledge of human perception to gain insights into the way the brain works. Even the world of HCI has taken metaphors and lessons from magicians, and there is much low-hanging fruit yet to be discovered. Come watch a computer read minds, and learn how the techniques of the magician can be applied to UX to create the illusion of technology more advanced than its time. |
